Detroit 's Arts Venues Aim for Comeback;
A Current Events News Brief.

From the Detroit News: After a few harrowing years trying to get their financial and artistic footing, Detroit's larger cultural institutions are on firmer ground.

From the Detroit Symphony Orchestra to the Arab American National Museum, contributions and attendance are trending upward, if slowly.

Savage cuts to staff and budgets have been digested. The local economy is growing, and area organizations have mostly acclimated to what Detroit Historical Society executive director Bob Bury calls the "new normal."

"We're starting to see the economy slowly turn around," said Mike Latvis, public policy director at ArtServe Michigan. "We're starting to see individual donors returning to past contribution levels."
